4th Year (2018-2019)
Cliché as it may be, I can hardly believe that I am now entering my final year of undergraduate study. Although I am entering my 5th year I still feel like I have not had enough time here at the University of Cincinnati. This past school year was a wonderful experience and one that taught me many lessons about where I hope to be in my professional life.
One of the main experiences I undertook this past year was as the Homecoming Chair for the Student Alumni Council. I featured my experience in this role as an honors experience (check it out!) and had so much fun executing the events of Homecoming. In my role I oversaw a committee of six who each lead a segment of the process such as design, parade, and weeklong events. I lead meetings with the team and supported them in their individual efforts throughout the summer and fall, leading up to the penultimate date: October 6th, 2018. The day itself was a whirlwind as I saw all of our committee’s work come to fruition. I was lucky enough to be selected for membership into the Men of METRO Honorary before the parade, which added to the shock and excitement of the day. In leading this team, I realized that I have a passion for working with a team and helping others grow into their own talents. I think my favorite result from my time as Homecoming Chair was seeing one of my committee members become Homecoming Chair for 2019. Developing a team and finding the various ways to motivate others was exciting and something I hope to do in a professional capacity.
Come spring semester I had the opportunity to participate in another co-op experience. This time, I worked for Mubea North America, an automotive supplier in Florence, KY. Living in Clifton and commuting to Northern Kentucky was certainly an experience, something small but important I can notice when searching for a full-time job. My work was in purchasing, like my previous co-ops, and I was able to see how a more frenetic, automotive environment went. For the summer of 2019 I am working with Fifth Third Bank as an Operations Leadership Program intern. Both of these experiences have been eye-opening, like all co-ops, about what work I prefer and other factors about the professional sphere to consider. (While not something to choose a job on small things like free coffee and good IT systems can make the day much better!)
Now finally entering my last year at UC, I have a number of things to consider in the coming months. Certainly, full time work will be constantly on my mind as I apply and evaluate various companies and positions. I hope that through my time at UC I can select a company with a satisfying culture and work that will challenge me. Through my work as Homecoming Chair, I can see that leading others is something I greatly enjoy. Thankfully, I will have the opportunity to continue leading the Student Alumni Council as I was elected president for this upcoming year. Re-reading my 3rd Year reflection gives me some hope. I was able to travel abroad with friends in August of 2018 and through my co-op with Fifth Third have been experiencing a type of work and industry which is completely new to me. I am not sure where I will be in June of 2020, but I am sure I will be excited to take on the opportunities presented to me. Here is too an excellent senior year!
